Tuesday, November 7th
This November 7th, we'll cast our votes for several members of the Pennsylvania State Judiciary -- our last, best hope to ensure fairness, justice and protection from politicians who want to strip away our rights.
Voters will also be asked to vote on a purposely confusing Constitutional Amendment called the Homestead Exemption. VOTE NO -- see below and to the right for more information.
Indivisible Berks is working hard in our community to make sure our elected officials represent all their constituents, including the most vulnerable. The candidates we’ve marked on this sample ballot will do just that. Vote for Duane Woodruff, Maria McLaughlin, Carolyn Nichols, Debbie Kunselman, Geoff Moulton, Eileen Ceisler, Irene Clark, Tina Boyd -- and vote to “retain” Justice Debra Todd. She could become Pennsylvania’s first female Chief Justice!
NO Homestead Exemption
Don't be deceived by what looks like a vote on the elimination of property taxes in Pennsylvania. The money has to come from somewhere. Let’s not take the drastic step of changing the Pennsylvania constitution without a sound revenue plan.
Property taxes fund upwards of 70% of some Pennsylvania school districts – plus police, fire and ambulance services. Other states that have slashed local taxes now have 4-day school weeks, no school sports, and reduced police presence. Some municipalities even turned off their streetlights because they couldn’t pay the electric bill. Don’t let this happen in Pennsylvania.
Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Don’t let the same folks who ruined Pennsylvania’s credit rating do the same to your local services. Go to the polls on November 7 and vote NO on the property tax referendum.
