Corrections secretary to speak at League of Women Voters event.
The Reading Eagle has printed several recent articles about prisons in our area: those currently in use and the one under construction in Montgomery County at a seemingly astronomical cost. For those readers interested in a deeper discussion about these issues, the League of Women Voters of Berks County is offering a luncheon at noon Saturday, April 21, in The Inn at Reading, Wyomissing, highlighted by guest speaker Pennsylvania Corrections Secretary John Wetzel. Learn more at www.lwvberks.org or the league's Facebook page.
The presentation will address prison costs and mass incarceration along with related topics. He is very knowledgeable about Berks County, having worked at Berks County Prison early in his career.
I encourage anyone interested in learning more about a topic that has social and financial implications for our area to join us at this timely luncheon.
Editor's note: Kober is vice president of the League of Women Voters of Berks County.
