Dangerous gas must be kept under control
I am writing to protest the news reported in "Rollback would ease methane regulations" (Reading Eagle, Sept. 12). According to the article, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has conceded that relaxing the rule for leaks at oil and gas sites would put an additional 380,000 tons of methane in the atmosphere from 2019 to 2025.
Methane is a potent greenhouse gas. What is a "safe" level of methane in the atmosphere? Tons and tons doesn't sound safe for any air-breathing being on Earth.
No one wins except the gas and oil corporations, which will save money and increase profit, the almighty end to their means. They, in concert with the EPA, are showing their total disregard for the health of the planet.
EPA methane rules should be preserved
