Recently I had the pleasure of attending a presentation by FairDistrictsPA at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Berks County. The focus of the presentation was the political practice known as gerrymandering. The point that really stood out from this presentation is how the process of gerrymandering disenfranchises voters, and how Berks County is a prime example of this. Berks voters comprise less than 25 percent of the voters in each of the four districts located in the county.
How are our voices being heard, when none of our U.S. representatives even live in Berks? I urge everyone who cares to contact their state representative and senator and express support for Senate Bill 22 and House Bill 722, which would address this issue. Both bills remain in committee.
