I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, and I have the National Rifle Association life membership to prove it. I'm completely onboard with the ownership of guns for purposes of hunting, recreational shooting or self-defense. Nevertheless, I see absolutely no reason why any civilian would need to own a semi-automatic rifle such as an AK-47 or an AR-15, and I think all firearms that hold more than six rounds and do not require the owner to work a slide, bolt, lever, pump, etc. between shots should have some additional restrictions placed on their ownership.
I especially have absolutely no use for the self-appointed "militia" members who own these types of guns. Many of them never had the guts to serve in the United States armed forces, and their misappropriation of military rank and wearing of surplus military uniforms disrespects veterans and the military a lot more than football players who take a knee during the national anthem ever will. Maybe ownership of semi-automatic firearms should be limited to honorably discharged military veterans only - make it a veteran benefit similar to the GI Bill or VA home loans.
Some gun restrictions make plenty of sense
