Nation going backwards when it comes to certain attitudes.
I was totally appalled by "Trump laments #MeToo as 'very dangerous' to powerful men" (Reading Eagle, Sept. 27). Well, yes, that is the whole point of the movement. The president said "they (accusers) want fame. They want money. They want whatever." That is a slap in the face to women. The people who want "fame, money, whatever" are these same powerful men, not the women standing up for themselves.
In the same edition was "Pa. House votes for tougher gun rules in domestic violence case," which concerned a bill mandating the surrender of firearms by a perpetrator of domestic abuse within 24 hours. Legislators who do not see this as a safety issue but a gun control issue are missing the whole point.
As a woman over the age of 70, I feel as if we have gone back to the 1950s relative to the status of women. What about the value of women in a land where all are equal? Are we back to the times when all are equal except women, people of color and others who are not white, male and "dominant"?
That is not a culture I want to see return. We are better than that.
