State needs overhaul of system to draw congressional maps.
Gerrymandering is wrong and robs the citizens of this commonwealth of a voice. And leaving the decision of redistricting to the party in power inevitably leads to gerrymandering. The state Supreme Court agreed and unsuccessfully attempted to get the party in power to correct the problem.
Fair Districts PA, a nonpartisan organization, is advocating an independent commission to do the job but is being blocked by the GOP leadership in the state House every step of the way, despite the majority of Pennsylvania's fair-minded citizens advocating this impartial change.
In late April, on a cold and rainy day, the state Capitol Rotunda was filled to the brim with citizens representing a broad cross-section of Pennsylvanians advocating fair districts. Perhaps the message will sink in and result in the House respecting the will of the vast majority of the people. If they fail to do so, hopefully people will take note and vote accordingly on Election Day.
